Cross-legged at the coffee table
2023
Ink & watercolour on Arches Aquarelle hot pressed watercolour paper. (A warm pale cream colour)
113cm x 137cm
Series: Anamnesis Unbroken (Au)
Cross-legged at the coffee table - it harks back to her personal history as a very young child, being taught how to draw from life. Some of the objects & in particular feathers she found in the garden distracted her from the precarious situation she was in.
This process of drawing objects from life has continued throughout her practice to this day & forms the core of each work.
The paper is left to curl at the bottom to imply the continuation of the lines & three dimensional aspect of the source & the hidden elements within it.

Walnut ink on Arches Aquarelle hot pressed watercolour paper. (A warm pale cream colour)
110cm x 113cm
Series: Anamnesis Unbroken (Au)
Teardrop is a deeply personal piece about loss & grief - painted all in one colour, namely walnut ink. The sepia tones set it firmly in the past. It recalls yet moves on from the loss. However, little triggers pop up once in a while. The beautiful song this is named after is one of those triggers for the artist. The making of the work despite this was joyful. As the medium flowed so did the memory becoming light & fluid as it fades to outer edges.

The etching is delicately hand coloured in watercolours to imply the fragile nature of memory whilst the palette shows the contrasting folds of the crushed drawing in a mosaic of shapes.

Charcoal & chalk on paper
Books from works of art appear interrupted as objects in the source material are omitted. In becoming the subject their previous use as part of the story becomes the whole story. Gaps left invite viewers to fill them with their own ideas.
